New Light on Barbara Baynton

Abstract

Only now, as new information comes to light, can the truth about Barbara Baynton be known, and the mask that hid her for nearly half a century after death be taken away. Baynton herself built up a public picture of her own life which combined fact with fiction, perhaps for a more dramatic effect, and perhaps it was one in which she came to believe herself.
