Asia, Europe and Australian Identity: The Novels of Christopher Koch
Abstract
Like Patrick White and Randolph Stow. Christopher Koch explores in his fiction the post-colonial Australian identity, not in an exclusively political sense, but rather in its spiritual and metaphysical ramifications. While all three novelists have constantly dealt with aspects of this theme. Koch has seemed most conscious of the vestigial European inheritance and the increasing Asian perspectives in shaping the Australian spirit.
