Vincent Buckley’s ‘Stroke’ : A Discussion

Abstract

This discussion represents an edited version of the proceedings at a meeting of the Honours Class in Australian Literature at Monash University on the 17 May 1968, which was recorded on tape. The class consisted of Mr Dennis Douglas (tutor), Brother Leo Scollen (A), Mr Frank O'Dea (B), Miss Diane Collier (D), and Mr Kevin Beuret (E). No change was made in the substance of the discussion during the editing, apart from the omission of two digressions on questions of fact. The poem, Stroke', too lengthy to reproduce here, appears in Arcady and Other Places (Melbourne, 1966).
