Abstract

Leslie Rees' The Making of Australian Drama—enlarged and updated from Towards an Australian Drama (1953) —is absorbing to read but difficult to classify. As a record of the making of Australian drama it is informative and entertaining; as a reference book it has no rival in its field; but as a scholarly history it has a number of weaknesses.
